Case study

An international relocation and a job search that had stalled.

The situation

A senior operations leader had recently relocated internationally and was looking for his next role in an unfamiliar market. He had been applying through LinkedIn but, on the rare occasions he received feedback, was told he had too much experience and was too senior for the roles he liked.

The approach

We sat down together for an online coffee and gently unravelled all the pieces. Together we looked at:

• His dream role versus the career opportunities actually available in his new geography
• Narrowing his LinkedIn profile so that it appealed to the right hiring managers
• Discarding skills and experience that added noise but not value, in order to make his profile more targeted
• Highlighting the areas of his career that he had particularly enjoyed
• Emphasising the experience that would be most valuable in that particular geography

The outcome

Once we had finished, he was more focused and encouraged, because he could see a clear path forward. He could see how his profile would now speak to the relevant hiring managers.
